The ANALAGOUS color harmony takes the base color, and then introduces the colors immediately to the left and right of it. When this harmony is used, it adds a little interest and contrast to a monochromatic scheme. By introducing threads that are so close to each other, you are adding interest to your project while staying in the same family.

This is really where the thread wheels make sense, and really expand your horizons. The thread wheels as I’ve introduced them, aren’t the standard color wheels. For instance, while SCT003 showcases it’s color in more of a standard color wheel format. It begins with Red, Yellow, and Blue, and ends up including all the colors of the rainbow. Therefore, the ANALAGOUS color harmony is still pretty monochromatic, with just a LITTLE variation. But, SCT004 was based on a picture of a sunset, and starts with blue, as well as burgundy and peach. When mixed, the colors tend to be different. The colors between blue and burgundy vary a lot more than the color between burgundy and peach.

This is what makes looking at color this way interesting. In every single thread wheel, the colors will be related to each other, but they each have their own personality!

Now, let’s take a look at our 4 scenarios and see what we come up with:

Fill (shown above): SCT003 used. Again, take the fill and break it down into the 3 repeats shown (yes, they’re different from the Monochromatic). And stitch them in the order shown. It gives the fill lots of life, but changes the feel of it.

Fill (shown below): SCT003 used. This time, I decided to break the fill up vertically and horizontally as shown. Then, pull it together by stitching the diagonal elements. I think you will find this one interesting to do, and very easy to stitch.

NBB-2315: SCT004 used. Here is where the thread wheels really begin to shine! Look at the same design, using the same color wedges—and look at how different they look!

NBB-6001: SCT005-3a used. Slightly different feel to this design, but oh how pretty! I repeated the center medallion from the center block, carrying to colors to the corner blocks. This repeats them, and ties the piece together. And, like last time, the exterior border is pulled together by colors as well. But if you notice, the main color 02 is only used in the 4 rectangular blocks. It’s the colors pulled from either side of it that are showcased.
