Thread Scheme - SCT042 Pantone's 2022 Color of the Year!

Welcome to 2022 – and a new year of color! I thought I would share one thing that I do every year, and geek out on a little bit of color! Every year, Pantone highlights a color, and goes down the route of introducing new products – it’s their Color of the Year. This year they have focused on Very Peri, and have pulled together several color schemes, or groups of other colors that you can use with their color.

Well, this is like candy to me! Early each year I look at Pantone’s Color of the Year, all the color schemes they’ve come up with, and just start playing. You play with the values of the color – the lights and darks. Then you start playing around with the combinations they’ve put together, as well as your own. It’s just plain fun, and interesting to see what you can come up with.

This week’s thread scheme is going to be simply taking a look at the color, as well as the varying color schemes that they’ve come up with. Then, over the next several weeks, I’m diving in to analyzing color schemes, and seeing what thread schemes we might come up with. I’m going to bring you a little further into my insane brain, and see if we come up with anything interesting!

Very Peri – It’s a periwinkle blue – a mix of blues and violets. In DMC terms, it’s DMC color 3807 – Cornflower Blue! It’s a nice color, definitely on the cooler end of the spectrum, but you have just a hint of red in it – so it should play interestingly in thread combinations. For the color value study, it falls right in the middle. On the DMC Color Card, they offer 3 lighter threads and 3 darker threads in the family. It would be a nice thread scheme to simply use these color together for a monochromatic scheme – and you’d have enough in the family the piece would end up having lots of interest.

The 4 color schemes the Pantone group has come up with are interesting themselves. I’ll talk more about those over the next 4 weeks, but I did go ahead and translate them to thread colors this week, and you can go ahead and play around with them yourselves. These aren’t true thread wheels as we’ve talked about before, but those will come over the next 4 weeks.

I’ll see you next week, and let’s see what we find!

For each of these thread schemes, or palettes, , I’ll include both an image showing how it was built (to the left), and a thread color schemes, with actual thread numbers, that you can print out. Feel free to save these cards, because you never know when you’ll need them.

Keep your eye out for more color schemes coming in the Simply Color series!

Have you learned more about color harmonies that I cover? Take a look into them, and let me know what you think!!! You’ll never run out of thread palettes again!!!

What part of color inspires you?

Happy stitchin’!
