Color Harmonies – Whole Color Wheel

Color Harmonies - Whole Color Wheel

The WHOLE COLOR WHEEL—really, is that a color harmony?  Quick answer—why not?

I have developed these thread schemes in the form of a color wheel, so why shouldn’t I treat them as such.  When you look at the color wheel as a whole, it’s the total picture!  I’ve picked the 3 colors, 6 colors, or however I’m going to mix the colors, and am really interested to see what I come up with.  Sometimes, it surprises me—so why not treat it as a color harmony.

When you have all the colors of a wheel to work with, there is not stopping or starting.  You can do simple bookmarks just with blackwork fills—until you get the length you wish.   The colors just flow easily from one to another.  I hope you enjoy these examples—I’ve enjoyed coming up with them.

Click and save below the web card for this color harmony.  Print it out on cardstock, and use it to look at any of our thread wheels.  Make up your own even, and see how many schemes you come up with!

Now, let’s take a look at our 4 scenarios and see what we come up with:

Fill (shown above):  SCT003 used.  This is the part that stitching the whole color wheel makes sense.  All that you have to do is to repeat the fill in each column, in each color.  It showcases the thread wheel colors beautifully, and you can make your project as large as you want.

Fill (shown below):   SCT003 used.  Now we’ll take this concept to the next level.  The colors here are showcased, and slightly transition from 1 row to the next.  And by doing it on an angle, it adds another element.

NBB-2315:  SCT004 used.   Well, with 3 pieces per blocks, and 4 blocks, looks like we have a true color wheel for you.  How about stitching this up in any of my thread schemes.

NBB-6001:  SCT005-3a used.   This design would be a nice one to stitch, but its not for the faint at heart.  The number of starts and stops in this design is crazy, but ultimately the effect is really nice.  Stitching it would definitely be a chore, but if you have a thread scheme you love, it would be worth it!

Click on any of the images, and find a PDF document that has each of these charts documented with what threads I used.    Do this on each of the color harmonies I document, and you’ll have 12 different ways to stitch them!  The possibilities are endless!!!
